ANNOUNCEMENTS

FrogWatch USA is the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ frog and toad volunteer monitoring program, coordinated by zoos & aquariums all over the US.

The Wildlife Conservation Society is holding special sessions for NYC and area teens. WCS is looking for teams of teens and adults to monitor local frogs, collect important information about them, and learn about wetland conservation. You do not need to be a frog or toad expert to make an important contribution!  You should:

  • have an interest in frogs and toads.
  • make the commitment to learn to identify different species’ distinct calls.
  • have the ability to visit a wetland regularly on evenings after sundown from March to September
  • be part of a team of 6 to 12 teens (aged 13 and up) AND at least two adults.  Teams may be part of an organized group such as Scouts, or volunteers may form their own teams.

Training will be provided to a limited number of selected teams, and coordination of teams will be done through the Teens4planetearth website. Click on the "Groups" tab in the header above to form your group, and invite members to your team.

If you are interested in applying for this pilot program, please see TeensforFrogWatchNYC for further details and Teens for FrogWatchNYC application to apply.

You can also contact Nalini Mohan (nmohan@wcs.org) or Allison Hague (ahague@wcs.org) with further questions.

If you are outside the NYC area and interested in FrogWatch USA, see http://www.aza.org/become-a-frogwatch-volunteer/ to find a chapter near you!
