- Project Description
- Service learning interdisciplinary academic program with an environmental theme designed for Rockhurst University and Hogan Preparatory Academy HS students. We seek to bridge the achievement gap by developing leadership, civic responsibility and environmental awareness.
Hogan students will be exposed to a collegiate academic experience, as well as college residential life, and be expected to participate in a service learning program promoting environmental awareness, a "greening" plan for Hogan, and providing tutoring and mentoring to younger students the following school year. Rockhurst students will participate in all aspects of the project as a service learning component for their education, become aware of and reflect on the educational barriers that low-income urban students face. We hope some of these students become motivated to advocate for social justice in education.
